Inspired by traditions from around the world, Bright Happy Power sends out “wish lanterns” floating on the Ipswich River during the Ipswich Illumination event. These celebrate hopes and serve as memorials.
People write down their wishes, reflections, or prayers, and place them in small paper boats (often these have been hand-folded origami boxes made out of parchment paper). We add a tealight candle (this year they had to be battery-operated due to drought conditions). These wishes float out onto the river and look like a constellation fallen out of the night sky!
This year we floated out a record number of hopes and wishes … well over 500! Read more about the event in the Ipswich Chronicle.
