HomeEventsWinter Party Grows to Week-long Hospital-Wide Tradition!

Several years ago, our foundation kick-started a Polar Express party on the oncology and stem cell/bone marrow transplant units at Childrens Hospital Boston. It staretd as a cozy gathering to savor an annual screening of the Polar Express movie or reading of the children’s nook.

The party always included holiday crafts and activities, hot chocolate and cookies. Magical bBrass sleigh bells also arrived to be distributed to children who so eagerly want to BELIEVE.

The event was so popular, that it expanded to include patients and family members on other units. In the past few years,  this event has been extended from one day to an entire week.

Now it has grown to be hospital-wide, originated by Bright Happy Power and supported by several major sponsors and donors. Overall, the event now provides pajamas, slippers, blankets, books, crafts, games and holiday activities for children staying on inpatient units throguhout the hospital. All organized around movie parties with cocoa and goodies.

To raise funds for this hospital-based event, which is one of our signatures programs for the year, we decorate an interior space for Christmas at Castle Hill, on the Crane Estate, owned by the Trustees of Reservations. It is underwritten by Institution for Savings, and helps support our part of the high-impact Polar Express week that takes place all over the hospital in December.
